Speakers at a "Spending Revolt" rally in La Crosse on Monday decried the national debt and said the country will pay the price for out-of-control spending.

"Spending Revolt" is a cross-country bus tour launched by the conservative Americans for Prosperity and a coalition of 60 organizations to promote fiscal conservatism.

Republican congressional candidate Dan Kapanke and La Crosse Mayor Matt Harter participated in the hour-long rally that featured Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher, better known as "Joe the Plumber."

"We have grassroots involvement like I've never seen before," Kapanke said. "This is my fourth race. I've never seen it better."

Attendees had the chance to sign the bus, where previous protesters had penned criticisms of the government's spending and attacks on President Obama.
